Good Printer, but it's drunk on ink
I have been using this printer for about six months and I have thoroughly been enjoying it. Here's some of the primary advantages:

- Excellent print quality with vivid colors.

- The print speed is acceptable. I can print a full page, high-quality image in about 15 seconds.

- The scan quality is excellent for a multifunction printer. It's fast and makes photocopying a page a real snap. Just a press of the copy button and you'll have your photocopy in either black/white or even in color, if you wish.

- Product advertises that you can do borderless printing. However, I have never gotten this feature to work on my new Macbook Pro -- and yes, I followed the installation directions, step-by-step, when setting up my printer. Not sure if the borderless feature is only for those using "Windows?"


The Disadvantages:

- This Printer is DRUNK on ink!

Each person will have their own experience with ink usage, but so far, I have printed out about 5 full page photos, and about 75 pages of black and white text on brand new cartridges. The printer is now letting me know that nearly all of the cartridges are out of ink and need to be replaced. Depending on where you shop, the best price that I've found for this is around to dollars, including Amazon.com.

If you think about it this way, 80 pages = in ink, which is close to 63 cents per page. Ouch! Those black and white pages were quite expensive...

I know, some of you are probably thinking, it was those five full color pages that did it. Sure, let's think of it like this: 5 pages = in new ink cartridges. Wow, those images cost per picture. Should of gone to Kinkos...

No Power Save Function
Although it is "Energy Star" you cannot put the printer to sleep and have it wake up when you need to print. You have to power off to save electricity.

It is an ok printer, fax and scanner. The display instructions could be better. Also, it would be nice to program it through a computer than through the printer's display.

Pain-enducing scanner
This scanner will break your heart. It is made out of such flimsy plastic that any untoward pressure on it will cause it to seize up. For 80% of scans the moving scanning part will get stuck and seize up as it reaches the 66% mark on the screen surface. I use this scanner for scanning my handwritten notebooks. The only way to do this is to rip the pages out and scan each sheet separately as the weight of any notebook or book will cause the scanner to get stuck two thirds of the way through. But even that is no guarantee to problem free scanning. So I recently took to using smaller notebooks so that I would use less surface area of the screen and thereby avoid the dreaded 2/3 area where it gets caught. This worked well for a while, using only the latter half of the screen, till recently it started seizing up even in this half of the screen. The only way now to make a complete scan is to hold one end of the scanner up while the scanner is going down the screen, so as to allow the plastic wheel mechanism not to get caught as it routinely does, and then quickly adjust to tilt it up at the other end as the wheel makes its way back up the screen. So you get exercise while you scan! True this is a cheap scanner but I would recommend you throw your out the window over buying it as that way you will save yourself a whole lot of grief in attempting to perform a simple task, such as scanning a sheet of paper, that is way beyond this piece of plastic's ability. I would never buy Canon again after this. Any recommendations for a light-weight but functional document scanner?

Did not receive Canon-brand toner
I'm not sure what Amazon is shipping since there is no manufacturer listed on the cartridge package itself, but what I received when I ordered this specific item is not a genuine Canon-brand cartridge. The generic packaging lists "Laser Toner Cartridge," gives a part number of ST-104 (there is no such part number on the Canon Web site), and says it's "compatible for: Canon ImageCLASS 4120/4122/4150" and two other products. In small print, it states, "All brands and trademarks are the properties of their respective holders and referred are referred to for descriptive purposes only." (Yes, it actually has the words duplicated.)

I've returned this to Amazon.

I wonder if third-party aftermarket cartridges are being substituted for some orders. However, that would be an error since the product description on this page when I ordered said the cartridge is "by Canon" and included a paragraph about why it's important to buy "genuine Canon" products for warranty reasons (which is why I went with what was supposed to be a Canon-brand toner). I've flagged this and asked Amazon to review the product description to make sure it matches the product they are shipping.

If you order this and genuine Canon is important to you for warranty or other performance reasons, verify when it arrives that it's in Canon, not generic third-party, packaging. Reading the reviews here, apparently some orders are, and mine and others aren't.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER
I have never had a printer that performed this poorly. The photo quality is terrible, it stops working after 4-5 prints, and it jams on everything. I think I'm going to take it outside with a baseball bat and give it the "Office Space" treatment. Buy an Epson.

Gives good quality prints, but a few quicks
I use these in a Canon IP5200. It creates great quality pictures, but does have a few limitations. Anyone thinking of buying an inkjet printer, should always check the price of the ink! A great deal on a printer can quickly turn into a money hole. It has been my experience that these cartridges, while less expensive than other brands, do not yield as many prints as advertised.

These cartridges also have the computer chip built into the tank, which I have had a few issues with. On more than one occasion, the printer stopped recognizing the cartridge and would constantly give errors that the cartridge was missing or empty. In both cases, I contacted Canon and they sent me out a replacement at no charge, so kudos to Canon for that.

Amazon is without a doubt the cheapest and easiest place to get these. Add the savings from the low commitment 'Subscribe and Save' program and no other retailer even comes close.

Best ink, good deal
I own several Canon printers. My favorite is the i9900. I like to order my inks on Amazon: good price, fast, dependable. But try to find the items sold directly by Amazon, so they qualify for "free super saving shipping". Sometimes you'll find the same inks at a slightly lower price offered by other sellers, but when shipping charges are added ,you end paying more.

Great portable printer, except for one thing...
I received this printer as a Christmas gift from my parents, since I admired their same model. Printing speed, resolution, and color look just as good as my larger HP Photosmart. The size and weight make for relative ease in mobility; it fits nicely in my school bag. The only issue I have with the printer is not with the printer, it's with Canon. For the price of this printer (9 original price), I would think they could throw in a USB cable. Other than the inconvenience of an additional trip to the Radio Shack, the printer is great.

Excellent, Versatile Printer for the Price
Although I have only just begun to use this printer, I find it to produce high quality pictures (on high resolution paper), and excellent black and white output on standard paper.

Reasonably fast and accurate.
